The Stampede finished weekend one of the 2016-2017 season with a sweep of the Maine Wild. In game one the Stampede played with speed and determination defeating the Wild 8-3 with Nate Walker chipping in four of the Stampede’s eight goals. The Stampede also added goals by Hunter Soden (2) Taner Byrd and Nick Sanborn. Ryan Scheide was in net for the Stampede for game one.
In game two the Stampede brought much of the same to the table but bolstered up their “D” to shut down the Wild offense and capture a 4-0 victory. Stampede goals were scored by Rocco DeRollo, Nate Walker and Matt Allen (2). Goaltender Martin Sten earned the shutout for the Stamp.
“It was a good start to the season as we found our offense, at times we struggled a bit in our own end but it’s early in the season and we have plenty of time to work on things as we move forward.” stated coach Beavis The Stampede will open at home this Friday evening at 7:00 PM VS the Roc-City Royals before hosting the North East Generals on Saturday and Sunday.
Northeast Division Star of the Week: Nate Walker, forward, Syracuse Stampede
Syracuse Stampede forward Nate Walker, 19, had a big weekend as his club posted a weekend road sweep of the Maine Wild. The 5’10/180 lbs. native of Dryden, NY, had seven points and was a +8 in the two wins, which included a four goal, two assist effort on Saturday in an 8-3 win. “Nate brought great energy to the rink this past weekend and created a ton of opportunity for his teammates. He’s a guy that the works hard every shift and the puck just follows him. At times it is kind of crazy to watch but he sure gets things done in a big way,” said Stampede head coach Mike Beavis.
